Sigrel Community Guidelines

Last updated: 2026-06-08

Sigrel Community is a public, moderated scam-watch organised by U.S. county. Neighbors use it to warn each other about robocalls, scam texts (smishing), phishing emails, mail and in-person scams, romance and crypto fraud, data breaches, and related internet-security topics. These Guidelines are part of our Terms of Service (Section 7B). By posting, commenting, or reacting, you agree to follow them.

United States only

Community is offered only to Sigrel members located in the United States. It is structured around U.S. counties, and we may block access where we detect that you are outside the United States. The rest of Sigrel's protections are available wherever you are — this restriction applies to Community alone.

Public posts and comments only — no private messaging

Everything you post is visible to other members in your county. There is no direct messaging, private messaging, or one-to-one chat anywhere in Sigrel Community, and we have no plans to add it. The only ways to interact are posting, commenting, reacting (“me too” / helpful), reporting, and blocking.

Who can post

Reading your county feed is open to eligible members. To post or comment you must be a signed-in member with a Community profile (a pseudonymous handle and a home county derived from your ZIP code), and your account must be at least 48 hours old. Posting is also protected by anti-bot verification and rate limits. You post under your handle, not your real name.

Be a good neighbor — what to post

  • Scam phone numbers, sender addresses, and websites you've encountered.
  • What a scam looked like and how it tried to reach you, so others can recognise it.
  • Local, security-relevant tips and questions for your county.

What is not allowed

  • Doxxing / private information. Do not post another person's private information — home address, personal phone number, government ID, financial details, or anything that identifies a private individual. Report the scammer's contact method, not a private person's identity.
  • Harassment and threats. No targeted harassment, bullying, threats, hate speech, or encouraging violence against anyone.
  • Impersonation. Do not impersonate another person, business, public agency, or Sigrel staff.
  • Advertising, solicitation, and self-promotion. Do not use Community to advertise or sell products or services, solicit money or donations, recruit, run referral or affiliate links, or promote yourself, a business, a website, a newsletter, or social media accounts. Links and handles to your own external sites or profiles are not allowed. We screen posts for this kind of spam and remove it.
  • Misinformation and false accusations. Do not knowingly post false scam reports or accuse a named individual of fraud without basis.
  • Off-topic, illegal, or harmful content. No content unrelated to scams and internet security, no illegal content, no malware or working exploit code, and nothing that endangers minors.

How moderation works

Community is moderated. Any member can report a post or comment using the report control and can block an author to hide their content. When enough distinct members report the same content, it is automatically hidden pending review — this is deterministic and is never the power of a single user. Our team then reviews hidden content and either removes it (confirming the takedown) or restores it (false positive). Moderation may combine automated screening, including automated classification of reported content, with human review.

We may remove content, hide it, or restrict or suspend accounts that violate these Guidelines or our Terms, with or without notice depending on severity. Repeated or serious violations can result in losing access to Community or to Sigrel.

Your privacy in Community

Community is built to expose as little about you as possible. You appear under a handle, not your name. We store only your home county — never your raw ZIP code, and never your IP address as your location of record. Posts are public to your county, so do not share anything about yourself you wouldn't want neighbors to see. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your data.

Reporting and contact

Use the in-product Report control on any post or comment to flag it for moderation, and Block to stop seeing a particular author. For urgent safety concerns, or to appeal a moderation decision, email support@sigrel.com. If you believe you are in immediate danger, contact your local authorities.
